DQ Atom "A" Slammers win Capital Invitational

2015-03-06

Capital Invitational Championship Win!

FYHA Wildcats stunned in final minutes as Slammers pull away for a 6-2 win!

Overcoming the loss of several players due to vacation and the flu our DQ Slammers defeated the FYHA Wildcats to secure their fifth championship of the season. Nick Brennan scored 5 goals and Kyle Gallagher added a single marker as the Slammers pulled away scoring three times in the last four minutes of play. Our boys went undefeated in tournament play posting a 5-0 record with victories over Pedicodiac, Carleton, Wildcats (two) and the Lions.

The tournament saw a three game goal scoring streak by Dean Briggs, Ben Everett stepping up with some "big" minutes in the championship game, Isaac McLaughlin and Kohan Ketch filling in on the back end throughout the weekend, timely saves by Tyrel Schriver and Isaac Sparrow when breakdowns did occur, and lots of goals as we out scored the opposition 26-4! The following is a list of game MVP's and Hard Hat recipients:

Game 1 (7-1 win vs. Petitcodiac)
MVP: Dean Briggs
Hard Hat:  Isaac McLaughlin

Game 2 (7-1 win vs. Carleton)
MVP: Isaac McLaughlin
Hard Hat:  Aiden Hemphil

Game 3 (2-0 win vs. Wildcats)
MVP:  Kyle Gallagher
Hard Hat: Josh Everett

Game 4 (4-0 semi final win vs. Lions)
MVP:  Isaac Sparrow
Hard Hat: Ben Everett

Game 4 (6-2 final win vs. Wildcats)
MVP: Nicholas Brennan
Hard Hat:  Carson Rideout

While the Slammers have the weekend off they face the Wildcats yet again on Monday night at the CCC in their fourth playoff game. It should be a good one!
